Which nonstick cookware is safe for cooking ? - your opinion helps

It is well known that some cookwares are safe when cooking. But none of these safe cookwares has good nonstick performance as nonstick cookware does. I have been looking for a good and safe nonstcik cookware for a while. But I am dispointed and reluctant to do it now because many of the nonstick cookwares on the market  are not really safe.

Many people know that traditional Teflon nonstick cookware is not safe because Teflon contains some dnagerous chemical perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)—also known as C-8, which has been shown to cause cancer, low birth weight and a suppressed immune system in laboratory animals exposed to high doses of PFOA.  Teflon also releases toxic fumes at high temperatures and leads to many birth death each yaer. Although the effects of PFOA at lower doses in humans are disputed, there does seem to be a link between PFOA and raised levels of cholesterol.

Some cookware manufacturers  try to avoid the bad reputation of Teflon and claim that they don't use Teflon for their nonstick cookware coating. And thus their nonstick cookwares are safe because they use different materials or improved manufacturing processes. It is kind of true that they don't use Teflon because Teflon is a TM of DuPont. There might be some difference between these chemicals and Teflon. Some chemicals might contain less PFOA or other toxic substance. But the chemicals they used are basically similar to Teflon. It seems to be impossible to eliminate all toxic particle by improving manufacture process either.  So safety is still a concern even though new generations of nonstick chemicals make nonstick cookware coating harder and more scratch-resistant. These cookwares include nonstick titanium cookwares, titanium ceramic cookwares and Swiss diamond cookwares etc. Don't be fulled by the names of these nonstick cookwares because none of these nonstick cookware  coatingsare nade of titanium or diamond. It is probablye that they are made of the same or similar chemical as Teflon.

There are some other nonstick cookwares on the market like Greenpan Cookware, ManPans Green Cookware, Dr. Mercola's Ceramic Cookware etc.  I don't know if their are really safe and I can't find out by myself. I wish experts and people with insight or experience can put their comments or suggestion here. You can comment or suggest any nonstcik cookware here freely because this blog is all about cookware safety and is not related to any commercials. Your opinion will help consumers like me to find and identify a real safe nonstick cookware for cooking. Thanks in advance.

  1. You should look at ManPans cookware. No PFOA or petrochemicals used in the manufacturing and no PTFE or other toxins in the products.

Nonstick pans are over rated and we all have been duped into thinking this is the only way to cook. ManPans are a better alternative to nonstick pans.

  3. What Robert (ManPans employee) has failed to mention, is that his company sells a product that will lose it's nonstick coating within 2 months and then his company will ignore the customer complaints. If your looking for eco friendly nonstick cookware that actually works, I would look elsewhere, because I am very disappointed in this cookware.

  4. The only true nonstick is Teflon, which isn't very good for you. In reference to the Manpans cookware line, they do not say their coating is nonstick. It is a hard anodized aluminum with a stick resistant coating. You can look for yourself and fairly easily find out that according to many chefs this is the closest you can get to "nonstick" without also getting the ptfe and pfoa that is bad for you.

Well, you could go cast iron with all the coating and baking hassles.

I've got Revereware (a family hand me down set that sticks terribly), Calphalon (which I've had for a couple years that works fine), and one Manpans pan (a wok, which works fine also, and I am very happy with it's stick resistant properties.)

You just need to realize that it is not Teflon (thank goodness), and follow their recommendations. Personally I love the Manpans wok that I have, and intend to add more of their cookware to my kitchen.

  5. I am glad finally find a website talking about non-stick pan problems. I did try Dr. Mercola's cookware. It is lighter than other ceramic products and seems easy to cook with. The problems is they are broken in a period of time either from my son's rough handling or the products just fall apart...What's you expect? It is made in China!!! There are some certain food in Chinese cooking does need non-stick cookware. I am really eager to find out which one will be safe to use without any commercial advisement involve with. Recently, I had just purchased a nonstick saute pan from "Master Collection. It mention about "Aluminum pure copper center". I have not try them yet, just wanted to find out from others' suggestion first. I am trying to avoid any aluminum contain. Is this Aluminum copper center safe? I do not know what are the coating for non-stick cookware. Thank you for any of yours' help.

  9. Stainless-steel - is a reasonably bad heat conductor. It is typically utilized for cooking area devices which contains a minimum of 11.5 % chromium. Stainless-steel is an iron alloy that likewise mixes including 18 % chromium with either 8 % nickel, called 18/8, or with 10 % nickel, called 18/10. It responds with either alkaline or acidic foods. Hence, they do not quickly damage. Frigidaire Induction Cooktop
